Course Reserves
To access Course Reserves, login here with your University NetID and password.
Course Reserves provides electronic access to posted course materials for students use. Class Reserves are physically located in the Health Sciences Center Library; print copies of books are available to students for short term loan for use in the library.
How to Place Materials on Reserve
Instructors can use Course Reserves to post articles and book chapters in electronic format. Physical books and other materials owned by the library or by the instructor can be placed on reserve in the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library.
For reasons of copyright compliance, electronic items available at Emory should be linked with a stable URL, not posted as pdfs.
Instructors or proxies can add materials to Course Reserves. A proxy can be an administrative assistant, a student, or another instructor. To add a proxy to all courses, select the Full Proxies option under Instructor Tools on the Course Reserves main menu to add their Net ID. To add a proxy to a specific course only, use the Course Proxies option under the Course Home menu.
Please create stable links using the link generator within Course Reserves or the Direct Link option within the Library Catalog.
All electronic items will be added to the Course Reserves copyright queue for review. Once an item has been cleared for copyright compliance it will be visible in the class materials. Do not post pdf copies if the article is available online. If no full text is available electronically, scanned copies of articles from journals in print at Emory can be uploaded as pdfs.
When items are reactivated, the information for the item will display. It is necessary to check and edit this information to be sure it is complete and up-to-date. If a pdf of an article was previously used, it is necessary to check if the electronic version is available and to change the pdf to a link if one is available.
If the book is available at Emory Libraries, use Ask a Librarian to request that the book be placed on reserve in the library. Please include: Title; Author; Call number; Course name; Course number & Instructor’s name.
Requests for books should be placed prior to the start of the semester to assure that the book is available. If it is checked out by another patron, a recall of the book will be issued.
Bring any personal copies for reserve to the Information Desk at the entrance of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library. These copies will be made available to students for short term loan within the library.
All materials placed on reserve are solely for the non-commercial, educational use of Emory University faculty, staff and students, and must comply with the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code). No one should post content consisting of copyrighted material or portions of copyrighted material without first:
- determining that the content falls within the public domain.
- obtaining permission from the copyright owner.
- determining, after a reasonable analysis, that the use of the material meets the Fair Use doctrine.
