Media Booking Services for Instructors
Find and use films and videos from the library collections for your courses. Instructions on how to book videos ahead of your screening, booking for public viewings, and renting films not owned by the library.
Options for hybrid and remote teaching
For hybrid or remote teaching and learning, we recommend using streaming video in lieu of physical media such as DVDs whenever feasible. Most streaming video content licensed by the Emory Libraries is searchable in Library Search. Subject librarians can assist with acquiring streaming versions of videos that you already use and titles not currently in our collection. You can also use the Emory Libraries streaming video purchase request form.
Booking videos for a class
To show videos and DVDs from the library in your class, you may use one of the following options:
Book the video in advance through Library Search
- This function enables you to create a booking request for the item (available only for authorized users).
- Faculty and graduate instructors get seven days for all visual media except items on Course Reserves.
- Note: If you choose a range that extends beyond the loan period, the booking will not be placed.
Book the video in advance with the Media Booking Form
- Please limit your requests to one item booking per form.

Booking library films for public viewing
To book a film, video, or DVD held by the Music and Media Library for a campus film festival or other public event on campus, you will need to obtain permission to show the material. Some items may already have viewing permissions. Contact us at Ask a Librarian with questions.
Renting films not owned by the library
The library supports the use of film and video in classroom instruction by purchasing physical media for our permanent collection or licensing streaming versions for a minimum of one semester, depending on what is available and what meets your curricular needs. Contact your subject librarian for assistance, or use the Materials Purchase Request or Streaming Video Purchase Request form. As of May 2025, the library no longer rents or licenses films for one-time classroom screenings or one-time streaming.
Instructors wishing to rent physical or streaming versions of films for one-time use must make arrangements through their academic department. Contact James Steffen, the Film and Media Studies Subject Librarian, at jsteffe@emory.edu for guidance in the following areas:
- Locating a film’s distributors or rental sources. Note that distributors typically ask whether the screening is open to the public or limited to students enrolled in the course, whether you are charging admission, and the anticipated audience size.
- Theatrical formats such as DCP and 35mm film. These formats require special arrangements for screening on campus.
- 16mm film projection. Available in the Music and Media Library’s Group Viewing Room by special arrangement. Instructors are responsible for delivering the print to the library before the class screening and shipping it back to the distributor.
