Faculty Teaching Fellowship Program
This program is currently accepting applications through Friday, November 22, 2024.
The Emory Libraries and the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library announce a new faculty development opportunity related to teaching excellence at Emory University. The Rose Library Faculty Teaching Fellowship provides instructional and financial support to faculty who wish to develop a new course or redesign an existing course which makes significant and regular use of the collections and resources within the Rose Library.
The Rose Library currently offers a robust menu of services and support to faculty across the University, but the Faculty Teaching Fellowship will train faculty on how to effectively teach with archives. Through monthly workshops and consultations, the program will provide faculty with an intense period to develop their courses including research within the collections, archives assignment design, and session planning with the support of their cohort members and archives staff.
The deadline for applications is Friday, November 22, 2024. The selection committee will review applications and notify applicants by Monday, December 16, 2024.
Applicants must be full-time continuing employees of Emory University and will teach their special collections based course during the 2025-2026 academic year. The Fellowship is open to all University teaching faculty tenure-track and non-tenure track. Faculty at Oxford College are encouraged to apply. At this time, this is not an opportunity open to graduate students or post-docs.
Each faculty fellow will receive funds in the amount of $2,000 to support the development and implementation of their archives-based course. The funds will be delivered to the fellow’s departmental research account once final syllabus and assignments have been received.
The following activities will comprise the program:
Kickoff event: A half-day workshop with collections tour and welcome reception in December or January. This event will introduce pedagogical approaches to archives-based learning, establish the fellowship cohort, and introduce fellows to Rose Library staff and campus partners.
Monthly workshops: The fellows will meet as a cohort once a month throughout the spring semester in a workshop setting. A meal will be provided. Meetings will be conducted as a combination of discussions and workshop activities. Pre-work will be assigned each month to encourage discussion and aid in course development. Upon acceptance into the program, faculty will be asked to participate in a poll to determine the monthly meeting dates for Spring.
Final workshop: Fellows will present on their courses to their cohort, submit course materials, and complete a consultation with Rose Library staff regarding the upcoming course.
