Shanna Early served as the Newton Fellow for the 2016-2017 academic year and developed this instruction portal. Shanna is a PhD candidate in the Department of English at Emory, studying British, Irish, and anglophone postcolonial literature. Her dissertation blends theories of place and environment with archive theory to examine how authors represent natural spaces as archives of intertwined human and natural histories. Shanna is also very interested in pedagogical theory and praxis. In addition to teaching courses in Emory's Department of English, she worked in the Rose Library as part of the Instruction Team for three years prior to this fellowship year. She loves being in the classroom with students, and is particularly passionate about introducing students to the wonders of the archive. Her time at the Rose Library has been formational of both her scholarship and her pedagogy. She enjoyed the process of working on this portal and hopes that it will be a valuable resource for teaching with archives at Emory and beyond.
