How to Submit

You have two options for submitting works to OpenEmory: Depositing directly to OpenEmory on your own or sending your CV to us for review, and we will deposit for you. Read more below to determine which path is right for you. To understand the types of scholarly works OpenEmory accepts, see Deposit Advice, and for detailed self-service help, see Deposit Instructions.

Option 1: Deposit via OpenEmory

There are four steps to submitting your work to OpenEmory:

  1. Make sure your work is eligible to be in OpenEmory: OpenEmory accepts scholarly articles, books, book chapters, conference papers, presentations, posters, reports, and working papers authored by Emory faculty, staff, and graduate students. If you have another type of content, please contact us to provide feedback on other types of works you would like to deposit in OpenEmory.
  2. Address copyright: If your work is published, the author agreement or similar copyright transfer agreement you signed will determine if you have the right to deposit in OpenEmory. If you don't have the author agreement on hand, and the work you'd like to deposit is a journal article, you can check the Open Policy Finder database for journal publishers' policies on depositing in an institutional repository like OpenEmory. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact us and we will do the copyright investigation for you. Points to consider:
    1. Before you sign an author agreement, consider asking for the right to deposit in an institutional repository like OpenEmory. More information is available at Author Rights, or you can contact us for assistance.
    2. If the publisher asks for an embargo, or delay, of the release of the work to the public, you can set the embargo period in OpenEmory.
    3. If your work is not published, and you have not signed an author agreement or transfer of copyright, you still possess all the copyrights associated with the work and can deposit it when you like.
  3. Check your version: You should submit whichever version of the work you have rights to share under your author agreement. For definitions of the different versions, see Deposit Advice.
  4. Deposit your work: See Deposit Instructions for detailed help.

Option 2: Send us your CV for review, and we'll deposit for you.

Email us your current CV or a list of your published and forthcoming works. For each article listed on your CV, we will review publisher policies to determine:

  1. If your article can be submitted to OpenEmory, AND
  2. If so, which version of the article may be uploaded (final published version, author's final peer-reviewed manuscript, or original manuscript). If your publisher allows only one of the latter two , you will need to supply the appropriate document for us to upload.

For other types of scholarship, such as book chapters or presentations, see Deposit Advice.

You may then give us permission to deposit on your behalf.
