Get all the answers to some of the most often asked questions related to student research Rose Library.

    Students will be given clipboards with green paper and a pencil and are welcome to bring in their mobile phones at the discretion of the instructor. No food or drink is allowed in the classroom and students will be asked to place their belongings in the Backpack Storage Room adjacent to the classroom.

    Each Rose Library collection has a finding aid which includes a suggested citation. Please keep in mind that you instructor may require additional information.

    For example, here is a sample citation: Photograph of The Sisterhood, 1977, Box 184, Folder 12, Alice Walker papers (MSS 1061), Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library, Emory University.

    Published materials are cited as normal (in whichever format used in your discipline).

    The majority of Rose Library’s collections can be photographed with a personal camera for use in personal study. However, there are some collections for which photography is prohibited; information on restrictions is included in the “Administrative Information” section of each finding aid.

    Yes, you are welcome to visit Rose Library outside of your class session. We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM and on Saturdays by appointment. Appointments are required on Saturdays. 

    Prior to your visit, be sure to do the following:

    1. Create a user account

    2. Request materials

    3. Make an appointment

    We highly recommend that you begin this process by requesting materials through our Library Search online catalog and ArchivesSpace database. You will be able to choose your materials directly from these tools and then be prompted to create an account in the Special Collections Request System, and schedule an appointment.     Unfortunately, there is currently no study space in the Rose Library.
